Learning Philosophy
Innovative. Engaging. Foundational
Our philosophy of education is based on engaging each child by teaching to their unique learning style. We believe that small classes, generous use of resource materials and an emphasis on foundational knowledge and reading will bring about true understanding – not just memorized facts.
We are enriching the Tanzanian (TIE) curriculum to provide an uncommonly excellent education as a model for all of Tanzania.
We are an English-medium school, believing that fluency in English and Swahili is important to our students’ long-term success.
Our teachers are mentored by American subject and grade-level expert teachers.
We recognize and teach to the unique learning style of each child.
We believe that these practices bring about true learning (or ”learning for understanding”):
Integration of Biblical truth with subject material
Emphasis on building foundations for learning starting in preschool
Small class sizes – generally 30 or less
Focus on meaning, not just memorization
Use of manipulatives and other teaching resources to make learning “real” or applicable
Emphasis on reading and use of the library
Allowing children to discover and learn on their own through books and projects and manipulatives
Encouraging curiosity, creativity and problem solving
